Learn What to Avoid to Keep Your Artificial Grass in Great Shape for Years to Come

Learn What to Avoid to Keep Your Artificial Grass in Great Shape for Years to Come

One of the many reasons that people choose artificial grass is because it is so durable. However, that does not mean that it is impossible to damage it. Unfortunately, there are a few things you can do that could make a serious and lasting difference in your artificial lawn – and not for the better. The good news is that we will go over all these issues so you can avoid them.

Avoid Using Any Harsh Chemicals

You will note that we never say it is impossible for your artificial lawn to fade or become stained, we do stress that it is very difficult for this to happen. It is extremely resilient but not impenetrable. For minor spills, such as paint, there are simple ways to get your grass clean. However, there are a few products that can cause long-term damage.

Remember that fake grass is made from petroleum-based products, which means that harsh chemicals, or even oil-based paints, can cause damage to them. While the products we install are covered by an impressive warranty, that coverage will be limited if the damage comes as a result of exposure to harsh chemicals. Luckily, it is easy to avoid this type of damage: Keep those products away from your lawn.

Do Not Let Your Artificial Grass Be Exposed to Fire or Hot Coals

The good news is that the materials used to make artificial grass are not flammable – no matter how hot you get it, it is not going to flare up and burn. That said, it can melt. If you have a firepit or BBQ, make sure that there is some kind of buffer between it and your grass. This could be brick, concrete, or another type of hardscape. If embers fly off the fire, they will land on the hardscape instead.

Do Not Allow Your Artificial Grass to Become Punctured

If you use stakes or other similar products on your artificial turf, you can create holes in the mesh backing of your turf. If you plan to install a permanent structure, like fences, swing sets, or light posts, we can help you do so without damaging your grass.

Of course, many other items can potentially penetrate your artificial grass, including sharp twigs and tree limbs. This is why we recommend keeping your yard cleaned up and to remove debris if a storm happens. These simple steps can help prevent damage.

Your Artificial Grass Can Last for Decades

While there are a few things to keep an eye out for on your artificial grass, the same is true of natural grass. Just keep these ideas in mind and the result will be beautiful artificial grass for years to come.
